Our #InspiretoAspire rugby league lads have been flying somewhat below the radar in recent months, but despite the chilly winter period and end of the 2014 season, they have been continuing to work hard behind the scenes to improve their fitness levels further still, and to perfect some sweet tactics to stun their opponents as the 2015 games begin.

With the new season now underway, we caught up with Leigh Centurions ace Ryan Brierley and had a delve into his February diary to see just what he was up to during the pre-season push.

Over to you, Ryan.

Week 1

Training has been really tough this week. We got a bit of a flogging on Monday in the swimming pool as I was rested for the previous game due to struggling with a hamstring problem. We had Tuesday off, but Wednesday and Thursday were really tough – especially as we had to train in shocking conditions, including the blizzard that hit the north west early Thursday morning.

On Friday night, I appeared at a promotional event alongside my team mate, Jonny Pownall, where we handed out trophies to a local dance team. It’s good to give back to the community and use our profiles to help other people who are aspiring to achieve their dreams, whether their passion is dancing, rugby, or something different altogether.

On Sunday, we played Keighley Cougars at home, which resulted in an 86-0 win for us. I managed to score 2 tries, which is always pleasing!

Only two weeks to go now until the real season kicks off, and I can’t wait.
Aspire to inspire 😉

Week 2

This was a massive week, not only for me, but for the club as a whole. It was our first game of the season, with a record crowd turning out to support us as we faced the Bradford Bulls. There was a certain intensity around the place – you could just tell that something was different. We managed to clinch a win, which was great, and we even managed to sneak over for a try right in front of the Bradford fans, which understandably, didn’t go down to well!

Unfortunately, I suffered a wrist injury late in the game, which was really painful, so I need a scan tomorrow – fingers crossed that it’s not too bad

Week 3

My results came back, and it turns out that I tore a bit of cartlilage in my wrist and suffered some bone bruising. Thankfully, I was able to play this week as I was given a painkilling injection. We played Halifax and managed to win 18-6, but it was probably the worst game I’ve ever been involved in. The conditions were atrocious, and the pitch itself was shocking. It’s something I have never seen before in my career, but fair play to the boys – we got the job done, and we will move on next week as we welcome the London Broncos to our home ground. It’s sure to be another great game, and hopefully better conditions!

Ryan is now letting us have a nose into his diaries on a monthly basis, so stay tuned to find out how he gets on in March. In the meantime, keep up with him on Twitter at @RyanBrierley .
